Our Founder - Carl Davis
BORN and raised
Trenchwork Foundation's founder Carl Davis came from one of the city's most disadvantaged neighborhoods. During Carl's early childhood the area was healthy and thriving, but due to the loss of jobs, the increase in crime, and lack of other essential resources, people began to flee the city. From this came Carl's inspiration for the Trenchwork Foundation, with a mission to "Build a Community" and to rejuvenate Detroit's toughest areas into a thriving community full of opportunities
Carl played sports throughout grade school such as football, basketball, and track and field. Carl excelled particularly on the football field, as he was awarded first-team All State by the Detroit Free Press for his performance at Adlai Stevenson High School. For college, Carl attended the University of Iowa, where he became a starting nose tackle his junior year and then again for his senior year.
Carl Davis was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the 3rd round of the 2015 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, Carl recorded 11 tackles and 2 pass defenses.
Unfortunately Carl suffered an injury and had to sit out the entire 2016 season. During his time away from the field, Carl became very active and passionate for giving back to the Baltimore and Detroit communities. Because of Carl's continued passion and desire to improve his hometown of Detroit, he officially created Trenchwork Foundation in 2017 through a partnership with fiscal sponsor PPF (Players Philanthropy Fund).
